AFOG Announces 2024 Event Management Scholarship Recipients

The Allie Foundation of Georgia is proud to announce Amenti Burrell and Jhondeka Joseph as the recipients of the 2024 Allie Awards Event Management Scholarship. Presented in partnership with the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality, this prestigious scholarship has been awarded annually since 2017 to exceptional hospitality students who demonstrate a passion for event management and a commitment to advancing the industry.

Amenti Burrell

Amenti Burrell, an aspiring restaurateur, has built her educational and career aspirations on a love for the culinary arts. “My interest in hospitality was sparked by my initial love of food and culinary skills. As I got older, I realized I wanted to make this interest into a full-time career, leading me to pursue a degree in hospitality,” she shared. With a vision of opening a series of restaurants offering diverse dining experiences, Amenti is determined to make her mark in the industry.

The Allie Awards Event Management Scholarship will help Amenti cover essential class materials and participate in the European Hospitality Study Abroad Experience. “This scholarship will aid me significantly, not only in purchasing necessary class materials but also in covering the cost of the deposit for the study abroad experience. It will ensure I can take advantage of every opportunity this program has to offer.”

Jhondeka Joseph

A native of the Bahamas, where tourism is a major industry, Jhondeka Joseph has long been captivated by hospitality’s dynamic nature. “Witnessing its impact on local economies fueled my desire to contribute to this sector’s growth and sustainability,” she said. Her academic journey was greatly influenced by a course with Dr. Kim, who ignited her passion for excellence in hospitality. “Dr. Kim’s guidance has left an indelible mark on my academic journey,” Jhondeka added.

Jhondeka’s leadership role as Communications Chair for the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) is a source of great pride. In this role, she fosters connections between minority students and industry professionals, promoting diversity within the sector. Looking ahead, Jhondeka envisions a future in travel and group sales within the event management industry.

For Jhondeka, the scholarship signifies much more than financial assistance. “This scholarship is a catalyst for financial relief that will alleviate stress and allow me to focus on delving deeper into my hospitality education and extracurricular activities that contribute to my personal and professional growth. I am truly grateful for all the donors who have supported my academic pursuits.”

A Bright Future for Event Management

The Allie Foundation of Georgia is honored to support both Amenti Burrell and Jhondeka Joseph as they pursue their dreams and contribute to the future of the hospitality industry. Their passion, leadership, and dedication to the field exemplify the values of the Allie Foundation and the mission of the Allie Awards Event Management Scholarship.

We congratulate both recipients on their outstanding achievements and look forward to their continued success in the industry.
